Starting to Get Obsessed

I bought some over the counter blends (st Bruno, clan, condor, virgina blend) that were in packets instead of tins. I wasn't impressed with them at all and have only bought tinned since as result.

I've now stumbled across some mac baren, some tinned and some packets, at a great price! What is your opinion chaps? Did I just make bad purchases originally? Can packeted baki be ok? Does anyone have experience of packets of mac baren?

Ordinarily I'd experiment on a pack and find out but it's bulk buys so I don't want to he stuck with £100/200 of rubbish.

Ah, cajundad, there's a big difference between blends sold in 8oz bags (like Penzance, Stonehaven, early Pease blends) and those sold in small pouch-like packets for immediate consumption. Thanks to drugstore blends, I have no good associations with those smaller packets. But, at the same time, I know that even Balkan Sobranie was sold that way at one time! I think it all depends on the brand/blend. . . and how quickly your retailer turns over his stock. I can't imagine that tobacco stays fresh for years in those things.

Some of those OTC blends are so saturated with flavoring that I believe after several years it would still come out of the bag wet!

I am not a fan of the few blends that ive tried... but there has to be tons of people that still enjoy them as they are still around after so many many years.

As long as your not rubbing anyone's face in it, your not being a snob. All good man.
I'm partial to bulks, with good tins intermixed.
Got bills baby, kids college funds, you guys know the deal.

Yes, you are being a snob.
There are many blends in pouches that are quite qood. Sir Walter Raleigh (cant remember how to spell the last name there *EDIT: Fixed it for you! -Jason*) in the blue pouch, Prince Albert, Half and Half, and Captain Black all loved by many. Middleton Cherry is also sold as such and many love this as well.

So smoke as you will as ya like, but dont bag on these blends because of their packaging, price point, or location by which they can be obtained.

If ya dont like something, thats fine even post that you had a bad experience with it, but dont start into them because they were not tinned and bought on line at the tobacconist of your particular choosing.
Avoid being a douche by remembering many love what you dislike or they would be out of business.

Figuring out what baccys you like is normal. Not liking OTCs is just fine; a lot do and that's just fine also. I've never been on a forum with fewer snobs, and more accepting people than this one. I love my rusticated Cristiano pot, and also my MM cob fireman03 sent me. Not snobbery to not like OTCs; if you can afford a Ferrari and don't like the front-drive hatchbacks, not a problem, as long as hatchback drivers are welcome at your barbeque.
My rich friend once took me to a casino in Louisiana, and we had to leave because he thought the people were 'too ugly!' I looked around and yeah, I guess he was right, but to notice that, and drive all the way back to Dallas because of it, now that's being a frigging snob!

I have 2 favorite burleys my daily smoke of 50/50 PA and SWR the other is solani aged burley flake. one cost $25 a pound the other is $11 an ounce. The way I see it is simply a matter of taste be sure not to base your decisions on the package after all you may find a gem out there. Try to get together with other pipe smokers in your area and most will be happy to swap a bowl or 2 with you so you can try out different baccies.

+1 to what Zanthal said. Also I don't see the OP as a douche at all, he was simply asking a question; are there any good blends that come in pouches? Based on his previous experience, which was negative.

MacBaren sells its blends in both tins and packets, depending on the market. Here in the States, we can only get MacB in 100 gram tins. In the UK and Europe, they sell the same blends in 25 and 50 gram packets. No difference. I quite like several MacB blends; they are definitely worth exploring. And if you can get packets, do so, especially considering the high costs of tobacco in the UK.
I don't think you are being a snob at all. You are learning what you like and don't like. I agree with those who think Locopony was much too harsh. Keep your mind open, especially as a new smoker. You never know what form a new blend you quite enjoy will come in.

Hehe yeah if you repel mosquitos, I'd say you're likely to be a thousand times more successful with people
You could go to Africa and save people from malaria, you'd be the most popular guy around.
