I just use lots of pipe cleaners (fluffy and bristled), paper towels (to wipe off the stems and wipe out the bowls), and spit (for cleaning tar off the rim—and I admit stubborn spots in the bowl). I’m not cleaning up old estate pipes tho, just maintaining my pipes daily.

In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
151 is no longer produced since Bacardi got tired of nuisance lawsuits brought by young, amateur idiots who kept trying to replicate the Flaming Moe.
i will bring up that they actively encouraged bartenders to show off the flamability. So not going to feel any sympathy for them. Just like if bud had ads talking about the fun of drunk driving.

North Georgia mountains.
7 months here. I use hot water and isopropyl as others have said. I have used golden grain, but only when my wife helps me clean my pipes every so often. She disposes of the alcohol when we're done so it makes it pretty easy for me to forget about it, although God what a waste of booze! I can't urge her enough to just drink it haha she insists on dumping it. It's also a cool time to teach her and talk with her about my pipes. But it's rare. I primarily use alternatives

Title edited for caps and shortened.

Hi I'm in recovery 5 years 4 months and makes me nervous with using alcohol to clean pipe is there an alternative I could use
Isopropyl Alcohol.
One sip of that and you'll be puking, zero temptation.

It's also perfectly safe in small quantities.
Isopropyl Alcohol is naturally metabolized by your body into Acetone, which is normal in daily life anyway (one of the components of bad breath from rapidly losing weight is excess Acetone being expelled from your lungs).

Igs nice to say I don't drink and you get the same reaction. Do u still have bad dreams that you get drunk snd feel like crap snd guilty
About 10 years here, I'm not counting. After being detoxed I adopted the attitude that I'm an ex-alcoholic, not a recovering one. It allows me not to dwell on that time, so no bad dreams.

Edit: another vote for isopropanol here.
