This strange dublin was included in a lot I just bought:

Hilson Fantasia.jpg

There are no markings on the stummel, but the top of the stem is marked "Hilson Fantasia."
The band is marked "Sterling Silver."

The reason I'm looking for input from ya'll is that, my understanding was that the Fantasias were made of some proprietary resin material, and lined with meerschaum.

This is straight briar. No weird stummel material, and no meerschaum lining.

So here's my question:
Is there any chance that a Fantasia stem was stuck into some other nameless pipe?

Or is this really a Fantasia, and Hilson made a few straight briars in the line?

Hilson may have made an all briar meerschaum lined Fantasia. But, you'd be able to tell if it was at one time meer lined by the way the draft sets in the chamber. I have a billiard that had lost it's meer lining.

The Fantasia line was mostly swirled resin cast pipes. But, that doesn't mean that a briar line wasn't made. I just don't think you'll find an authority on those. Hilson had other meer lined bowls also.

That band is definitely not original, nor is the way that sandblast has been sanded down.

I'd say whether it was or was not a true Fantasia is besides the fact to the pipe being rather ragged out.

I prefer to collect the all briar Hilsons in the all briar lines, especially the Academia and Viva lines.
