Yeah. Square Cut is a lot more floral, and no chocolate to speak of. It’s vanilla, floral (bergamot, I believe) and some other essences that are slightly sweet and piney, with a very appetizing “windex“ sort of note. I think it’s the camphor from bergamot that does that. Where the Chocolate flake focuses in more on the bass notes of the spectrum, square cut gets into the brighter, lighter flavors. I don’t love all Lakelands, but if you like No. 7 cut flake, I’d imagine you’d like Square cut. I find it and No 7 to be the most “crave-able” of the GH blends.Square Cut vs regular Flake? Has anyone tried both?
Yes. I am certain that everyone here would much prefer the Square Cut and I am a lone outrider in my preference for the Flake.Square Cut vs regular Flake? Has anyone tried both?

I want to insert an emoji, but I am not sure whether ? or, given present supply uncertainties , ? is appropriate.
Been smoking BCF since at least 1986, when you ordered it from Bob Lynch in Holyoke MA. The sudden burst of love this blend is getting kind of staggers me, though it has consistently gotten faint praise (I.e.,” the only GH I like is BCF”) on places like this.
A word to the inexperienced: it does vary a bit from shipment to shipment, I think mostly in the bulk version due to time spent getting in smokers hands. For all the Bob’s I have smoked over the years, I have never smoked the tinned version. I laid some tins in a few years back when I was terrified that there might be a bulk drought, but things loosened up, so I traded or sold them.
Reports from people whose taste buds I trust are that the flavorings are a bit more pungent in opening a fresh tin than a fresh box, but once dried out the taste is pretty much indistinguishable. I can, and occasionally do, smoke Bob’s from a fresh box, sopping wet, and have minimal relight issues. It still burns slow and cool, but the flavorings are a little more prominent. My preference is very dry. To me, everything just comes together that way.
If you like Bob’s, give Louisiana Flake a spin. Rub out a flake or two of each for a 50/50 mix.
Yes. Tarred with the grannies panties/urinal cake brush.Do you mean to express that you’re surprised how under appreciated it’s been all these years? My first order was a tin but will certainly be ordering it in bulk sometime in the future!
Yes. Tarred with the grannies panties/urinal cake brush.
Responding to that would require TMII hope you’re not using a urinal cake brush to clean both your pipes and other special parts...
If you like Navy I bet you will like Balkan Flake. Its similar to navy imo just has more latakia, and almost a medicated quality to it. It's pretty good. Not yet but I'm going to add a tin when I place my monthly order after this week. I had been spurning it because I prefer latakia blends with Oriental leaf but Navy and Bob's have me re-thinking my assumptions
Right on! Just ordered a tin with a tin of Bothy too!If you like Navy I bet you will like Balkan Flake. Its similar to navy imo just has more latakia, and almost a medicated quality to it. It's pretty good.
Lucky you! I finally tracked down some Bob's Square Cut, but Bothy Flake remains elusive in the USA.Right on! Just ordered a tin with a tin of Bothy too!
I love that medicated type of favor that you get with some latakia blends! Shane Ireland referred to it as camphor in his review of Spark Plug which has a bit of it and I think that's a good description if we're talking about the same thingIf you like Navy I bet you will like Balkan Flake. Believe it or not Spark Plug was my first ever English blend. I liked it quite a bit but to be honest I can't remember it enough to make a comparison. I have some left but it may be way too dry because I left it in the tin and forgot about it hahaha.I love that medicated type of favor that you get with some latakia blends! So what you’re saying is I should’ve got 2 pounds?? Hahaha!G&H Bob's is not only wonderful when fresh...but with at least 5 years on it ...becomes just wonderful sparkling flake...sparkling because of the plume.
