I just had my first bowl of Bob’s and subsequently that “wow”, “wtf” feeling took over... once you go Bob’s not sure you can go back, but would say the same about the two other SG’s I’ve had: Skiff Mixture and Full Virginia Flake. Somewhere I read a review that used Mexican mole as a taste comparison to Bob’s which I agree with, something sweaty (in a positive sense) and peppery under the dry baking chocolate chalkiness. The nicotine seemed a bit heady, but I did have it on a relatively empty stomach and it was after a bit of Bushmills, also accompanied by a Sauvignon Blanc. I shall now mentally significantly my pipe smoking life with BBBF (before Bob’s Flake) and ABBF and look forward to see (one day) if Grousemoor shall supersede this signifier.

The chocolate doesn't sound appetizing to me, but from testimonials, apparently it is. Foodstuffs, except for maybe vanilla and plum, always come across cloying to me. But I'll take your word, this is unique. Sometimes if a flavored tobacco is tobacco forward, it can work well, like the plum in Royal Yacht, to me at least, or the anisette in Mixture No. 79.

I understand your sentiment and share a similarly fear but Bob’s Flake is the polar opposite of a Hershey’s bar in tobacco form. I’m scared to try anything anisette flavored as it might trigger a sambuca hangover flashback. If you try Bob’s in the near future I would be very curious to hear your opinion.
You would like Two Friends "English Chocolate".
Will check it, actually, something like Bob’s Flake with a smokier component would be nice.

Bob's Chocolate Flake is creamy milk chocolate to me. I love it along with Two Friends English Chocolate, but that is a different chocolate that's more like dark chocolate/cocoa. Samuel Gawith Chocolate Flake has no chocolate aroma or flavor at all.

For those interested in chocolate tobacco, take a read through the Chocolate Flake Discussion thread.

Apologies, I forgot Bob’s Flake is a Gawith & Hoggarth product not Samuel Gawith.
No apologies necessary. I figured it was but just wanted to be clear as Samuel Gawith also has a chocolate blend and a blend called Sam's Flake.

I'm also new to GH&C Bob's Chocolate Flake and I love it. I didn't get any chocolate flavor until my second bowl.

From what I understand, and as posted above, the SG chocolate blend is less chocolate and more floral. I think the GH&C blend is perfect for me as I'm not a big Lakeland fan and Bob's only has a mild hint of Lakeland to me which makes it all the more interesting and enjoyable.

I dig it quite a bit too I ordered mine with some SG Navy and I think I prefer the Navy because it's just a bit less aggressively flavored or scented. But they're both quite good and I don't find the added flavoring of Bob's to be offensive

I like the navy flake as well. I have 2 4 oz jars aging at the moment. I think the latakia is what really sets it apart from the standard navy flakes out there. When I smoke it, I feel as if I'm actually at sea, the salty air filling my nose. It's wild.

I completely agree. The Latakia in both blends is expertly done and really rounds out the flavor profile. Really interesting to see how Latakia fills in as a condiment. Both blends are still easily considered VA-based to my palate but the latakia pinch hits for perique or KY and it's a totally different experience.

Have you had the chance to try Balkan Flake?

I've had just a 25g sample of it and loved it. Not getting much chocolate at all though, what I got was almond and the smallest hint of chocolate from the pouch, and floralness with tobacco while smoking. Really good. It's the one blend I need to buy again if I'm to write anything about it, it's just unique.

Bob’s Square Cut,......all day long.
This has been on my list as another on to try to find and try. I know it's the same tobacco ratios as Bob's Chocolate Flake, but very different flavorings. I have been trying to understand the differences. Is the Bob's Square Cut less chocolate and more floral?
