We are at it again ... darn allergies are killing me, and on top of things I can not even enjoy my pipe properly since. Ragweed is in full season and it seems to be getting worse every year, no matter what medication I take. Do any of you guys have this problem? How are you coping in as far as enjoying a pipe?

One ragweed plant can produce up to 1 billion pollen grains! I too suffer from hayfever during the summer months...however for some reason I have got off lightly this year.

Jay.

I hear you madox - up in NY we've been blessed with a gorgeous summer but frightful allergy season. I found two things this year that seemed to bring more relief than previously:
a) a netty pot. I use the bottle variety from the drugstore, dump your salt solution in, shake it up and squirt up your nose. Takes a bit of getting used to but really helps to rid those inner allergies from popping up.
b) Flo Nase: over-the-counter nose spray. I'd been using OTC allergy pills since high school and I think as I've gotten older my allergies have worsened. This seems to do the trick for this season, anyway.
I smoke outside exclusively, so I'm always fighting my sniffles or a breeze making my pipe burn hot! Best of luck to you, you're not alone my friend!

I second the Flo Nase-type products. Takes care of mine just great. live with a cat who wanted us to adopt him as he was a stray and am terribly allergic to the critters. :)

Spring is not an issue around here, springs are usually cold and no ragweed blossoms during spring. I have heard about salty solutions to be better for your nose than any other medicine. I have been using this product that gives a great relief, but it rebounds about 10 days after you stop using it ...

Allegra is pretty great, also staying hydrated. This weak winter didn't help kill that junk off either.

I've been through the De-sensitizatoin shots four times. As a 10 year old, then we moved to Germany, so they started another round specific to European plants. Then again as an 18 year old and 30 year old. That was all the doc said could be done. As a 10 year old and then a 30 year old, I was afflicted with exercise induced asthma. Fortunately my symptoms waned as I got older and the asthma disappeared completely. My brother went through a similar ordeal, but his worsened with age. The Clarinex script works pretty well for me now, I hope that holds.

Had rugged hayfever as a child. Bad nasal congestion, even worse runny eyes. I wore shades, looked like a mini-jazz musician. For some reason, in the Navy, living at or near the water, or being at sea, my allergies got better, not cured but far less intrusive. I still have a runny nose in the morning, in the seasons. And my eyes can nag me as well. But I seem to adapt far better than when I first suffered from it. As you all know, the body adapts, sometimes.

The Texas/hippie solution:
(1) Have local honey. Somehow, this helps.
(2) Consume lots of Tabasco sauce. It keeps those nasal passages (and other passages) clean.
