I acquired a nice looking Lorenzo Spitfire quarter bent that has been a bit difficult to clean. Finally decided to get it finally done and ran into a really dirty pipe. It appears that this pipe must have been put up without any sort of cleaning done for some time. It took well over a dozen Q-tips, several pipe cleaners, and a good knife reaming in the stem and stummel - along with a 24 hour alcohol soak to loosen the build-up. The stem - yes, the stem and the stummel had a build-up that softened enough with the alcohol soak to get the gunk out with the reamer. I like using Scotch or Bourbon for the soak - just in case it leaves a bit of a taste! Finally, nice & clean with nothing showing on the cleaners. I'll get to the cake in the bowl next.

Yeah, I've used it with great success on briars and a gourd calabash that I bought 2nd hand. The gourd smelled really bad, but a few soaks with super high strength vodka did the trick.
