AKB 9mm Meerschaum Push/Pull from SP?

Hi,

SP has a sale going on now. I decided to take a look at their 9mm Meerschaums. Yes, I know that Meerschaums in general act like an absorbant, but I want to have more filtration. They have either this AKB or some expensive Barling meerschaums. I am most concerned with the quality of the morise/tenon fit. I emailed SP and they were nice enough to send me a couple of pics. They said it appears well constructed and it will definitely accept a 9mm filter. It appears pretty well done to me also. It's not your typical fitting with the tenon attached to the stem, but it's attached to the mortise instead. Anyone with experience with this fitting? Thanks

My Rattray's meerschaum has the same fitting and it works perfectly. It takes a 9mm filter, which I take advantage of as I prefer a filtered pipe.

I also have a Rattray's like this and it's been great.

Funny you posted that straight Dublin. I've considered it a few times but I couldn't justify the price since it's almost the cost of a commission.

All the meerschaums that take a filter (that I’ve seen) are set up that way. Nice pipe!

I also have 2 pipes like this. One is a no name and one is an Altinay. No issues with either except neither one fits an adapter. I either have to go wide open or use a Balsa

Have two (different brands - semi bent smooth), with the same fitting. I like them very much. They pose no problems, and yes, I faithfully use the 9mm filter in each smoke. Had em' for over ten years.

Which Vauen did you get? I have to say I only have one but it's a great pipe and also a filter pipe and I like the way it smokes without the filter so much I wish I would have known that before rejecting pipes for having the filter option. I imagine that I stem setup looks like I might like it better then the typical meer fittings.

This will be my second Vauen in less than two weeks. I love using 9mm charcoal filters, better than 6mm version. I wanted to keep the price close to $100 for the classic. I haven't even smoked my lovat white dot yet. I had PAD, but hoping these two will be the cure.
