So my wife married a non smoker. (I still consider myself a non smoker actually, lol. 0-4 bowls a week.)
I keep my tobacco stuff in my office in the basement so as long as i only smoke once or twice a week the smell dissipates by the time she ventures down there.
But lately she's noticed it a few times and she really doesnt like it. And personally i wouldnt want anyone to ever smell tobacco on me... and unless I'm actually smoking I dont like the smell myself.
I've started spraying airfreshemer afterwards and keeping the fan on.
But are there any tricks of the trade?

I've been using Ozium for years, even before I started smoking a tobacco pipe.

It's not cheap but Lampe Burger works like a dream. I got mine from Amazon and I chose the Neutral scent.
I also buy some 90% isopropyl alcohol to stretch it out.

When I come into my house, after being out all day, that smell that lets me know I'm in my home is that herbally, tea-like fragrance of quality burned tobacco. Hmmm... it's the smell of Home Sweet Home. But, it's not like a barroom the day after. It's not a day after a poker game with beers and cigars. It's distinct. It's not even like a Briary smoking lounge. It's definitely not like cigarettes. I'm so very lucky that Mrs Cosmic likes it too, and she used to be a staunch smoking-nazi. I've converted her.
No, I didn't train her. But, I listen to her talk about her hobbies, beading, glass beads, blah, blah, blah. So, I would talk to her about tobaccos, the aromas of different ones, Virginias, VaPers, Latakia. She became an active part of my smoking. She would join me on the porch, talk about the smells. Then, eventually, I joined her for a smoke on her couch. Then, eventually, I'm walking around with my pipe inside her place... all the time. Then, I always had a pipe burning. We talked pipes, and tobaccos, differences between them. Then, when I had the PM Radioshow on, she knew what they were talking about. Now, she goes with me to pipe shows, shops, join me for a Lunt around the town.
Now, of course, I have to go see bead makers, bead artists, and listen to her stuff. But, I see it as just the cost of the smell of home sweet home. YMMV

Cosmic, you should add some more and make your post an article. While reading I wished it would never end, lol. You are totally right my friend, it is all about listening to each other and sharing some quality time.
While smoking inside, the most important thing is to get the smoke out of the room as soon as it is exhaled from your mouth. Otherwise the particles will stick around (clothes, curtains, wood, etc.) and stink later.
During summer time, I would just open the windows and smoke in the kitchen, wind acts as an air freshener. During winter however, I go to my cave (a dining/guest room) that's never used. I close the door, open the window and smoke. After the ritual, I just leave the window open and door closed. It takes some time for all the smoke and smell to get out, but it still works. What's left after is the smell that Cosmic described - tea-like fragrance of quality burned tobacco.

Thanks Pagan... No pictures are necessary. I will never be able to get that image out of my memory!

Another vote on Ozium. I used to smoke cigarettes in the car while I was working - I used this stuff religiously. The vehicle never smelled like smoke and to my knowledge I didn't either.

I have always heard about Ozium, but never bothered to pick any up. I'll have to give it a go. In general, I'm in the Cosmic camp... no issues with the smell in the house. Most of my tobaccos are decent smelling anyway.

I rented a car to drive to a funeral a couple of years ago. The rental agent went over and over how strict they were about smoking. I totally ignored their BS anti-smoking policy, and drove that car across the US with a pipe constantly burning. I even smoked latakia and stopped and picked up a cigar for a change of pace once.

On my way back to return the car, I picked up a can of Ozium Vanilla. I turned on the air conditioner, set it to recycle the air, and sprayed the Ozium into the floorboard in the front seat, both sides. This then has the recycle-r blow it back through the vents. I then switched it to defrost and did the same thing. The guy never smelled a thing. I even gathered up my pipes and a few lose tins from the front seat in front of him. He never acknowledged anything. I got my deposit back.

That stuff works.

Wow, good stuff! I'm in a small cabin with a balcony, and am tempted to smoke outside, but neighbors may complain and the ship will hit me with a $250 fine. So I do it occasionally when we're underway, but not when we're in port.
Ozium vanilla, he said, making a mental note.....
