The inexpensive car ionizers (ozone generators) that plug into the 12v cigarette lighter outlet are, in my experience, pretty lame. Car detailers use bigger units with great sucess. If you are handy with a soldering gun, you can easily build one on the cheap from parts available on eBay. I wonder if you could rent a commercial unit somewhere? They are pretty fantastic, just don't run it while you are in the car. Ozone is bad stuff for mucous membranes. Lungs don't fare well.

Chasingembers what type of lamp is that?
Alcohol catalyst lamp. Light it and let it get hot. Put it out, and it will purify air molecules for about an hour.

Unless you can extract all of the particulates from the room quickly it will be adhering to the carpet, furniture fabric, paint, curtains, etc. Not to mention your clothes, hair and skin. Your wife is simply gonna have to accept the reek or you will have to find a different place to enjoy a bowl. Oh, and depending on her tolerance level it might be wise to shower and change cloths before returning to the house after a bowl. Hopefully she will tolerate a bit of the reek and you can perhaps limit your smoking to one, well ventilated, room. Your office? The furnace room? Garage?

The only way to get rid of the byproducts of tobacco combustion is to remove them, either by air exchange (exhaust fan), filtration or destruction/conversion into non-offensive materials.
Seems to me that electrostatic is the way to go.
I just bought this
$139 out the door for a kick-ass electrostatic precipitator. Just add duct!

Just add duct......and also let all of the heat out of the room at the same time...unless of course you live in warmer climes
The air flow is 1400 cubic feet per minute which means all that lovely warmth you have just paid for in logs/oil/coal/gas/electric goes right out of the window...quite literally!
Yes, you might well have an almost smoke free environment but a damned cold one too, particularly in winter.
Unless of course this is a closed circuit design therefore none of the above would apply*.
*Am in bed on xmas night after enjoying rather too much American bourbon whisky

Jay.

Jay, this is a filter, not an exhaust fan. Room air recirculates through the electrostatic precipitator. I'm going to install this in the attic space above my office. At 700 cfm (half it's rated capacity)I'll get a complete air change every minute. I might need some paper weights and goggles, but I'll be able to smoke in the house!

When this became an issue for my wife, I started with a basement room without a cold air return register. Slight improvement. I added weather stripping on all the doors. Slight improvement. I added a small hardware store air purifier. No appreciable improvement. So I bought a serious air purifier: a massive BlueAir unit:

Significant improvement, but not quite enough. So I added a small vent fan:

That seem to do the trick. The fan is just a 12VDC fan salvaged from some long discarded computer powered by a 12 Volt power block from some other long lost appliance, mounted in an old table leaf.
I get the occasional complaint when the the Blueair filters reach the end of their usefulness (about 6 months) but normally there is peace and harmony. I don't notice that the room is any colder in the winter, though I do unplug the fan and close the fan door when the temperatures dip below zero (F).

WOW, the efforts you guys make to appease the missus is remarkable :worship:
Myself? I have taken the easy (and cheap) route by remaining steadfastly single...I can smoke what I like, where I like and whenever I like...I still have to make my own dinner mind you :puffy:
Season's greeting to you all,
Jay.

There is something to be said for companionship as we grow older. I myself have no restrictions, with the exception of latakia in the house but, I would not let my pipes get in the way with the relationship between my lovely bride of 29 years, and me.

"There is something to be said for companionship as we grow older."
Of that I am in no doubt Mike. However, as I am getting older (55 on Friday) and my mobility issues continue to worsen I have now missed the boat and have to make the most of my lot.
I almost got hitched on two occasions, both of which I backed out of due to fear of the unknown. With the benefit of hindsight I know I made the right move. Yes I do occasionally miss female company but I've conditioned myself to solitary life and relish in all that has to offer.
Some folks crave the company of others but I don't. I can go many days without seeing or speaking to another soul and it bothers me not one jot.
But of course, to each his or her own :puffy:
Regards,
Jay.
