I bought a couple ounces of bulk Yorktown in 2019 and sort of forgot about it. I must say it's really evolved into something quite nice. It's got some depth to it from the reds but the star of the show is the naturally sweet and tart bright virginias. Being in the same jar for a few years has really married the two together and created something special. Sweet, bready, and lemony, it's like grandmas lemon pound cake 😋.

North Georgia mountains.
I had a similar experience. Bought some, didn't enjoy it much fresh. Put it in a jar and forgot about it for a year or so. Revisted it out of curiosity one day and it was really good. It mellowed out and seemed to sweeten a little after resting for some time. Great bulk smoke

I've noticed that generally speaking Virginia blends (especially from C&D) really benefit from a couple of months of "resting" before smoking.

I haven't had any Yorktown in ages because it was ghastly the first time I tried it; I don't even remember what the blend even consisted of.
Yeah it's funny - I bought a tin a few years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed. Didn't get any of the stoved flavors I was looking for. In fact, for a blend that supposedly contains so much stoved leaf it was remarkably light in color.

Ever since then however it seems people speak so glowingly about it. Maybe I got an unfortunate tin?
I'll pick up another one day but I'm not in a hurry.

Can you guys compare to another blend, if it is comparable that is. Being a Virginia blend I'd imagine it would have similarities to others.
It kind of reminds me of the 2022 carolina red flake although that may not help you much. They're not the same maybe more like distant cousins. Its hard to find comparisons for tobacco blends since they all have their own personalities.

Yorktown is one of my favorites and I have poundage put away. I'll have to break out some of the older stuff.

I smoke through it too fast to have ever aged any beyond 2 years since Yorktown is my daily, all day kinda blend, but that two year old stuff was delicious and exactly how you describe except I get less of a citrus flavor and more bready flavor I suppose. I wouldn't put it on par with some of the really legendary flakes or anything, but definitely damn good.
