Thank you. I only ask because of all the contradicting information that I have read about meers. Will follow your advice and go with a light sanding for the bowl and regular stem cleaning.

Very welcome. I've cut open meerschaum pipes and a few other tests to try to debunk some of the mysticism surrounding them. Treat them as you would any other pipe.

Question: Do you smoke your pipe continuously or do you intentionally set it aside for while & relight later?
Lately I find myself setting it aside for awhile & relighting later.
What happens is that the taste & enjoyment is renewed a second time which I find enjoyable.
Have you ever tried this or is it of no interest?

It depends on the day and the blend. I generally prefer to just pack a fresh bowl if it’s been sitting in the bowl for a full day, but within the same day I’ll usually fire it back up. Some blends lend themselves better to being set aside than others.

Nice choice! I like them simple like this one. Is this your first meer?
Yes it is. It does seem different than a briar, perhaps a little cleaner & simpler....but I can't really find the right words.

If I have time, I smoke the whole bowl. But you are correct. The term is DGT. Delayed gratification technique. If I cant finish a bowl, Ill smoke it later. And most times its better.

I feel like a newbie pipe smoker & truly appreciate helpful comments from knowledgeable folks sharing their experience & preferences about various pipe shapes & tobacco blends. I have discovered, after trying various online & local shop blends that I really like a “mix” of complex but mild, lightly sweet, with some flavor beyond Virginia/Burley. After reading about so many favorable B.S.O.S.M. comments & its legendary status, I had to get some tins of H&H Black House & Marquee White Night. And Balkan Sasieni. For me, the H&H blends were a bit strong, smoky & dry. And since I’ve discovered the magic of Black Cavendish, I tried adding some to B.H. & M.W.N. Perfect: The “bones” of the H&H came through & was sweetened & softened only slightly by the BC. The flavorings were there but did not dominate. On the other hand, to my surprise, I enjoyed the Balkan Sasieni as is. I was surprised. Maybe the lack of Perique? No matter. I’m just enjoying the world of so many choices.
