@anthonyrosen - I have to give an honorable mention shout out to Burgess Meredith in his portrayal of The Penguin. I think that was in the Adam West series. He and DeVito did totally different takes, but check it out if you haven't seen it lately.
@dave g - I would honestly rather see Keanu as Batman...it would be an "excellent adventure" :)

Doubling down on Ben Affleck.
Ben Affleck played Superman when he played George Reeves, in Hollywoodland (2006). It's a twofer, times two: Batman, Bruce Wayne, Superman, and George Reeves! If only he would get cast as Adam West...

Now, the guy has won two Oscars, a couple of Golden Globes, etc.( as a writer and director). While he has several acting nominations (for good acting), back at the dawn of the 21st century he got his share of Razzies for bad acting in bad movies.
I would say, either of his Boston-based crime films -- Gone Baby Gone (2007) or The Town (2010) --is twice as good as The Departed (2006).

This movie is inspired by Frank MIller's The Dark Knight Returns. Batman and Superman get in fights with each other plenty, not to mention the whole JLA Tower of Babel thing (the premise being Batman knows how to defeat every other superhero).

Batman v Superman is the obvious choice for a new DC movie, I just wish they were keeping the rest of the Justice League out of it for this one movie and actually focus on Batman and Superman.
I have my reservations simply because the DC hasn't proved themselves with this genre of movie yet. I was sold on Batman v Superman the moment I heard about it but when they drift away from that in previews it seems to hurt their image overall (that second trailer made a lot of people angry because it looks like they tell you the entire plot).

I gather the production costs have been so of the charts high that they're willing to do stupid things to fill seats, wrongly believing that revealing plot twists will help sell it. You're correct about DC not knowing what they're doing. My bet is big opening numbers and quick die off thereafter.

They all seem to go for this nowadays. The new Star Wars, I just don't think that the drama and plot is deep enough in that one to keep people watching it over and over. Even the visuals weren't all that great to keep me coming back top see it again. Just my opinion, but I think that some movies nowadays are designed for the initial opening night, not the long haul.

This may be semantics but I think you're referring more to the point of Affleck's ability to portray Bruce Wayne effectively. My knee jerk reaction to the casting was the same as yours, but when I thought about it more, I'm actually excited about it seeing how it turns out. I think he'll end up surprising some people.
As for the portrayal of Batman, I'm sure he'll do the costume justice.(pardon the pun) Now the guy is like 6'4" which is 2" taller than Batman should be but I guess it really doesn't make a difference when it comes to filming due to perspective tweaks that can be done.
I used to not like Affleck, but I'm changed my mind. What I've been doing is not judging him on his past characters. When I think about where he's come from he's actually a pretty good actor. I like to see someone evolving in their career, and not just doing the same role over and over. I really liked him in The Town. I never saw Gone Girl but it's on my list to watch.
Having said that there are some actors that are too far gone into previous roles that are type cast in my mind. Example of anything with Daniel Radcliff(aka Harry Potter) or Keanu Reeves due to the fact every time he speaks he sounds like Ted to me. However, I loved John Wick. It's a great movie and fun to watch, but he has so little dialogue in the film, it's not a distraction.
Shit I'm way off topic....

DC isn't making the movie. Warner Bros is making the movie. The decisions come from the Lot. Anyone spending $500,000,000 on a film with the intent that it will not have serious legs has no business in the business. Actual cost is 2 1/2 times negative cost. No film makes a billion on opening weekend. If this film doesn't find a wide repeat audience, they have a problem, a big one.

Have faith, people!
The same was probably said of Val Kilmer and George Clooney, and look how great they did in the role!

I have faith that Affleck can pull this off. Batman is such an iconic character though. People have a vision in their minds of what the character is already and as the saying go; you can't please everyone. Folks seem to have a predetermined dislike of the man for various reasons and of course they are allowed that. To write off a whole movie because of it though seems a little silly. Go see the move and take it in as a whole then take to the internet and use it for what it's for... complaining about movies....watching porn....and of course serious and thought provoking discussions of the briar.
P.S. Affleck was indeed the bomb in Phantoms.

I'll see the video version. I hate Afleck just enough to hate it on principal. I like Snyder. I like the superman guy. I like the genre. I hate Afleck. Also, I hate the trailers for the movie. I love venting my hate to strangers on a random forum ;) I feel better now. Thanks for your time.

I'm also going to wait til it comes out on video. Can Affleck pull off a good Batman? Maybe, but then I remember how he played Daredevil.

I've been dissapointed in Ben Afleck ever since he wimped out on leaving that crazy wife of his in Gone Girl. He's just way too spineless to be Batman. Besides, is he rich enough to be Batman? Batman is supposed to be like really, really rich. In Gone Girl he was struggling with credit cards and keeping his sister's bar open. This could be a disaster in the making.

At least he's come a long way since his days of running the streets in Good Will Hunting.
