I need to go away for a few days, and want to practice my pipe smoking (which my partner still sees as a strange affectation) undisturbed. I will be travelling with hand-luggage only and it is in the EU.
The pipes and tins of tobacco will probably come up on the X-ray, but what I am most worried about is the pipe tool. Are you allowed to take those on board, or am I better off just picking one up at the other end?

I have traveled with a Czech tool attached to a bunch of keys and have not had it confiscated.

International can be tricky because airport policy doesn't translate, but from my experience (now almost 9 years ago) is that security at international airports is more lax than here in the US. A Czech tool should be G2G since it isn't bladed. Just be prepared to explain if anyone asks, and luckily Czech tools are cheap.
