Hi Folks , I just bought this beautiful heavily smoked somewhat boverpriced old BBB Best Make Bolder grain on eBay , and I may attempt to make it shine again by myself or alternatively will send it for overhauling to Germany, how would you think, after the lava has been removed from the top may it need a brand new stain application?

Getting the lava off the rim shouldn’t require restaining. Spit and a rag, or black coffee and a rag should take care of it.
A Pipnet or a Buttner reamer, followed with glass paper wrapped around a Pilot marker can take down more of the cake.
Micromesh pads will polish up the stem.
A bit of Renaissance Wax, applied first to the palms of your hands, left to set up for about 30 seconds, and then rubbed over the bowl and shank exterior, until it’s gleaming, should take care of the exterior.
The rest is scrubbing out the interior surfaces, the airway and mortise.
