Adjusting Stem Fit

Good evening!

Just got this little estate Austrian meer in, nice and small and figure it'll be a good pipe for a quick smoke or for sampling new tobaccos.

Bowl itself is light as a ping pong ball. Only trouble is, the stem is slightly skewed to the side.

I suspect that this may have been the case in production, as it is not loose and the case seems to have wear consistent with the skew.

Not really a huge deal, I suppose, but I'd kind of like it to be straight. Any tips on adjusting stem fit, or would I have to have a new stem made completely to get it straight and snug?

Interesting. Might have to try the superglue technique, though I'm kind of afraid to overgunk it up

Yah that is a problem with estate meers, i've learned to stay away from older pipees with screw in tenon, gotten a few overclock and usually on the "sultan" style carved pipes.

You could try painting a thin layer of clear nail varnish on the tenon
Or using a piece of felt/leather "O ring" between the stem and shank

I used paper for a small adjustment. Dental floss, too.

This stem is far too narrow for those, unfortunately.

Might try the dental floss solution first.

From the pic it looks like the stem is turning a little too much. No problem, just take a piece of sticky tape, put a hole in it the size of the tenon, slip it over the tenon sticky side down and press it against the flat part of the stem. Screw in stem and repeat if needed. When it fits right, trim the tape and you're done. Basically, you've created a "spacer".

Exactly. Years ago I was going to buy a Meer, but knew it was slightly overclocked, much like the Kaywoodies were. I much prefer the push pull. If I had a Meer like this I might try a conversion.

use the hole reinforcer to get the clocking correct and then trim the excess diameter with a sharp knife/scalpel
