Accidentally Removed Some Finish off the Rim

This is an extreme move I wouldn’t recommend on a nicer pipe, but I had a pipe from my step dads grandad given to me from around 1930s or 40s that had bad rim char and cuts, so I torched the whole thing and sealed it with oil. Then wrapped in a little silver wire I had left over.

Your pipe doesn’t look bad, I’d leave it, or a little oil, You could sand just the flat top and stain for a new look, but that’s decent work, probably not worth it if you don’t have the tools on hand.
Mineral oil is often sold in drugstores as a laxative to be taken by mouth. It's very cheap and could be considered "food grade" as it is safe to consume in small quantities.
What c.e. said, plus supermarkets. I've never seen non-food grade, and even that should be fine.
Any mineral oil works. Jojoba oil does a great job, so does paraffin - . My all time favourite though is recorder oil.
Even Balistol works fine. What matters is that it does not go rancid, as does for example olive oil.

That would be preferred or butcher block oil (same); some people just use olive oil if they don't have the other. Some simple wax will do too. Some use chapstick or burts bees if they don't have others. Whatever you have at hand ... its your pipe ! Or just clean it and wait until you get something like Renaissance wax. In the future a little black coffee on a piece of paper towel will remove most rim tars and char fairly quickly don't rub hard just wipe. I clean the rims periodically with black coffee then run a wax rag (a rag I've used for waxing) over them. One member just uses a silver polish cloth for a wipe down. Hope that helps.
Accidentally did this to my Wally Frank earlier. I'd almost like to see what it's like au naturale...the lighter area is where the alcohol accidentally spilled when I was cleaning it... Wonder what it'd look like stripped, but I've never tried that and I may just leave it alone. Need to invest in some mineral oil. Any other recommendations ?
I have noticed when using Saliva for rim charring it does take some of the finish off usually.

As a non-toxic solution, I use Tried and True Varnish OIl since it is made of pine resin and linseed oil. It will darken over time. Sunlight will cure it quickly. Use in very thin coats. Not cheap, but I use it for interior furniture work. Don't confuse it with the Danish Oil or Beeswax Finish made by the same company.
Half on a whim, half for practice deep-cleaning, I tried my hand at refurbing some filthy old thrift store pipes the other day.
Finished 'em with Ebony Oil (which as I understand is mostly just mineral oil with a higher price tag and a magical incantation said over it) and Renaissance Wax. Seem to have come out pretty enough.
