I chose it to provide some roundness to the overall profile, and to give a little more body and "tobacco taste" to the smoke. As to the moisture remaining somewhat consistent, the sugars in the casing and topping will tend to act as a sort of natural humectant, holding moisture a little more tightly than pure leaf, while blends like Westminster have nothing added, and are more prone to drying.
