Has anyone actually tried collecting, drying, and then smoking dottle, Sherlock Holmes style?
You go first.Has anyone actually tried collecting, drying, and then smoking dottle, Sherlock Holmes style?
Im out on that one. It never made sense to me.You go first.
We'll await report.
I’ve tried the DGT a few times and find I like it less than a fresh bowl. Not sure why.I'll stick with the Delayed Gratification Technique, though. Otherwise known as the "I didn't finish that bowl last night and it's pretty tasty today", technique.
Close enough to frugality for me.
But can i collect them like sherlock holmes and then resmoke em?Don't eat the dottles. It won't help with your digestion.
Yea, same here. I also find that MM Cobs leave almost no dottle most of the time. Maybe because of its wide draught hole.Dottle is to be expected, though experienced smokers usually get less of it.
For some reason, MM cobs leave almost no dottle for me. I'm not sure why that is. Some of my briar pipes leave a little, and specific ones leave none.
It's a bit nasty but I have adopted the practice of burning off the stub in the bowl as standard break in for Cobs.
Load it with just enough tobacco in the bottom to be able to light it and then smoke it hot.
Again, tastes totally nasty, but you char the remaining stub so the taste of wood doesn't come through again and it clears the bottom of the chamber.
Not interested in DIY pipes or pipes that one intentionally allows gunk to reside in the bottom of a pipe. I'll put up with a cob occasionally during yard work or fishing most of the time they sit around gathering dust.Cake, ash builds up over time creating that 'bottom of the bowl'.
You can also use pipe mud to create it fast and easy.
Is it DIY or is it just break in?Not interested in DIY pipes or pipes that one intentionally allows gunk to reside in the bottom of a pipe. I'll put up with a cob occasionally during yard work or fishing most of the time they sit around gathering dust.
I clean out every bowl, seperate out the unburnt tobacco and put it on top of the next bowl. That might be a bit hick or rough to you lads, but I don’t find any issues with the taste, and tobacco here in NZ is too expensive to throw in the ashtray.Has anyone actually tried collecting, drying, and then smoking dottle, Sherlock Holmes style?
I get it man. Reminds me of smoking devils lettuce roaches so none went to waste back in the day. Thankfully my favorite tobacco routinely goes on sale for 15% off and I get an lb for $33 with that sale. I can hold off on smoking dottle for now.I clean out every bowl, seperate out the unburnt tobacco and put it on top of the next bowl.
