Great post. What are tin prices like in Argentina? I see they have Cornel & Diehl. Cheers.

Can't speak for the pricing on all the various brands, but my 50g tin of Samuel Gawith Cabbie's Mix cost me just about USD $15. I thought that was a pretty good price down there, but I think the relative affordability was mainly due to the big drop in value of the Argentine Peso and the fact that I was paying in USD. Everyone wants Dollars, and if you are paying with them you are pretty well set. I feel sorry for the Argentines who only have Pesos and have to deal with over 100% annual inflation. Argentina is a great country, but economically it's a mess...

You paid 2 dollars more than what I paid. I paid in pesos. But in Barrio Norte everything is more expensive

Yes, the location of the shop is in a premium area. But even at $15 I was surprised. I was actually expecting the tin to be much more, not knowing what the tax rate is on tobacco in Argentina...

This is great. I'm planning an hunting trip to Patagonia (doves, ibex, and water buffalo) and will be spending a few days in Buenos Aires. The trip will be in February next year. Looking forward to it and will certainly visit the shop.

Glad the post was useful to you -- highly recommend both the pipe shop as well as the other gift shop (Arandu) that I also mentioned above. If you haven't been to Argentina before you are going to have a great time!

Buenos Aires can be hell in February. I recommend that you look for a hotel with all the comforts.

Ok, do you know who makes it?

Some of them looked interesting and it appears they ship world wide, and was considering some of them to try. hmm 🤔
Yesterday I was messaging with who makes them. I haven't tried their tobacco yet. I don't know him personally. I have read good things. I have not bought yet because the page seems a bit amateurish to me. But I probably bought the Bourbon today.

I could not get that link to work, but did do a search for argentinapipaclub on youtube as you suggested and found the club's homepage with many videos posted. Will definitely have to take a look thru them. Gracias!

Ah, now on to the important stuff... :) Aside from the transit days thru Buenos Aireas coming and going, the main part of the trip consisted of 2-days wing shooting & 1 day fishing in Santiago del Estero, and 2 days big game hunting in Catamarca...

Wingshooting: As is well-known, the wing shooting is fantastic in Argentina. We limited ourselves to "only" 500 shells per morning each pass shooting doves (one could easily shoot 1000+ shells on doves in a half-day), and then another 250 shells each in the afternoon on decoyed pigeons. How many birds you hit is another matter! We averaged right about 33% on our shooting, so bagged close to 500 birds (doves and pigeons combined) each over the first two days.

Fishing: On the one fishing day (about 6 hours total time on-the-water), we caught 3 Golden Dorado (all nice fish over 20 lbs each) and 1 piranha.

Big Game: Only 2 of the 3 persons in our party were really interested in big game. One guy took a nice (14-16 pts) red stag. It was his first trip to Argentina so he was 'over the moon'. I took a nice brocket deer, and was equally happy as brocket can be difficult.

So all in all a great trip!
I can't help but wonder... what have those poor doves ever done to you?

I still trying to find who makes Monk Tobacco. I'm also curious about the Mason symbol on the packaging.
A guy named Matias from the city of Bahia Blanca.
You can go to the web page click on the Whatsapp icon and chat with him.
I did it yesterday.
I will be receiving my tobacco orden in the next few days.

Nothing to me personally, although they are literally there in the millions and considered a huge agricultural pest...
Yes they are found by millions. But Argentine landowners tend to consider anything that threatens their profits, including humans, a pest. But certainly no one is going to miss those doves. Argentina is quite protective of fauna, something that is sometimes not fulfilled, but the laws exist.
Birds can be a plague, some two decades ago the open-air garbage dumps in the cities of the maritime coast generated an overpopulation of seagulls. Then the seagulls started to hurt the whales in Patagonia. This led to the prohibition of open-air garbage dumps.
