I am curious if anyone has every tried a very refreshing tobacco, or even a mint , menthol tobacco, such as 4 Aces Mint Pipe Tobacco or Good Stuff Menthol pipe tobacco.

If so, how is it? and are there any other like it out there that are common? i might go ahead and try it once if people seem to like it.

That is RYO cigarette tobacco. But I do have some mint pipe tobacco from South America that is interesting though i could not smoke it often. There used to be one made in the US called Greenbriar but it has been gone for years now.

There's a review by PipeFriendCHS on YouTube, he recommends Altadis Frosty Mint - apparently, it's very very minty and refreshing.

Strongirish remembers Greenbrier. Now that brings back memories! I got a tin of that in a sampler pack

back when I first started smoking, and I can conjure a vague taste and smell memory -- but not enough to say

whether it was mint or menthol. I think it took a while for me to finish the 1 oz. tin.

Two Friends' Valle Crucis tastes like Juicy Fruit gum to me, and I smoke it occasionally for a refreshing

change of pace. Nothing as saucy as a mint flavor, but quite different from the usual pipe tobacco fare.

I remember Greenbrier from the late 70's. Not bad, a good refreshing schmoke after yard work on the weekends.
Now, I'm wondering if I take a part of menthol ryo and mix it with a burley, how whould it taste ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

I've just returned to this thread for a nostalgic peek at that tin again,

and it occurred to me that McClelland's Grand Oriental Series Drama Reserve

has many refreshing and exotic tastes, which just might provide the bracing

smoke you're looking for.

hellar, welcome aboard. I'd buy mint and menthol blends in small quantities, a pouch or one-ounce if available. I think as your taste evolves you'll tend toward more subtle aromatic flavorings or non-aromatics. Mint and menthol can upstage the tobacco itself and may not continue to be pleasing over time. Don't mean to kibitz, just a thought.

I was offered a homemade blend at a Pipe Event, and I accepted before really asking any questions. But, two puffs into it, I realized that I was smoking something akin to Altoids. I guess there are folks that would probably like that sort of flavor in their smoke, but...
For me refreshing is like a slight hint of orange or citrus in a Virginia, or something like Newmister Superior Navy Flake which is a heavily honey'd flavored Virginia Flake. It really stimulates my saliva and wets my whistle.

I have never had the nerve to try a menthol or mint pipe tobacco. If anything would ghost a pipe, I'd think that would do it more than Lakelands! But I've tried some mint cigars and I liked them, Principes, still, I will leave the mint for my ice cream. Not what I want in my pipe.

I only started with a pipe in November and bought based on description alone early on. Mostly I've been pleased. I started with aro's and was happy but then I found Latakia and orientals and mason jars. Now I love nightcap, Byzantium, and the kramers blends among many others. However, early on I thought "ooh frosty mint that sounds good."
Frosty mint is like getting hit in the face with a bag of snow and ice and menthol crystals and altoids and mint candy, then having that same bag warmed up and shoved down your throat whilst a snowman punches you in the nose with a handful of fresh frozen mint sprigs. I tried it, a pipe full, and it blew my head off with cold mint.
I actually tried to add one single small leafy piece to another blend to see what it did and that alone overpowered the bowl. It is no kidding, freezing cold, mint C-4.

I have noticed that some Oris will have a cooling effect. I get this from my blending Macedonian and other blends with Macedonian in them, which to me builds up a eucalyptus flavor, and sometimes during the bowl from (I guess) the Drama in Drama Reserve. But not like a menthol cigarette.

You know your pipe is ghosted when you don't even have to put any tobacco in the bowl or light it, but merely draw air through the stem and get a cool menthol taste.
