Glad you like it James ! BTW, it is made of spalted Hackberry and olive wood with a stainless steel pick.

@ Duane I don't know about a gifting war, But collecting tampers might be a new good hobby. I sure have enough pipes. Thanks all I didn't even know Ed makes them an sales then till now. I will be getting more for sure.

That's a nice tamper. I really like tampers that have a pick in them; comes in handy sometimes.

ejames - where do you get the hardware for your tampers?
I buy female threaded inserts from McMaster-Carr. The male threaded pieces start out as a 3/4" long 1/4"X20 brass bolt I buy at a local hardware store. I cut the heads off and then drill a .140 hole all the way through them for the pick. The tips I machine from brass or aluminum rod or sometimes briar. The picks are made from .140" SS rod. I get all my rods online. The .140 rod is very hard to find but I like to use it so the pick will go through the airway of most shanks.

That's gorgeous. Btw, Ed makes a pretty mean looking pipe as well. Checkout some of his customs. I love his unique banding work.
