Yes you will need a humidor for tinned cigars unless you plan on smoking all of them within a week or two.

Seldom now. If I am smoking, I prefer pipe smoking to a cigar in any circumstance. In the past, I would smoke a cigar at Pascha, Christmas and other special days. But as other Canadians have noted, buying a good cigar here can eat into your retirement fund. :puffy:

This is a great thread thanks to so many good posts. So far, it seems there are two general categories, the people who combine cigars with pipe smoking, and those who are infrequent or non-cigar-smokers. A few seem to teeter on the edge, with very limited but regular cigar smoking. I guess I am almost entirely a pipe smoker, but I do enjoy the occasional cigar on a whim.

I have smoked cigars for 20 years, and was a passionate devotee / collector. I currently have enough cigars to last a couple of lifetimes. I loved the history, the flavours, the culture and the camaraderie -... and I feel guilty that pipes have captured so much of my attention and desire. I get home from work, grab my pipe and load a bowl. I don't even consider a cigar.
I still make the pilgrimage to Cuba every second year for the Partagas Festival - however that is more to be there with my buddies and enjoying the good times. For this years upcoming.trip, I am already starting to plan which pipes and tobacco to pack.
Like MSO489, there's a lot about it that pleases me - and the economics is definitely one of them.

I’ll smoke 14 -17 Cigars a week and 20 - 25 bowls. A cigar is my first smoke of the day and I get up early so that I have time to enjoy it, Pipes I can smoke while working.

I like a cigar, a close friend bought me 50 King Edwards I still have 5 left. When I retired I was given 2 Romeo & Juliett the first one hit me like a truck, the second just didn’t do it for me.

Just can’t beat a pipe!

I still smoke 1-2 per week. I have enough in my cabinet humidor to last for years. But I smoke less cigars each passing year since taking up pipes.
The good thing is that my stock is well aged by now!

I always end up wishing I were smoking a pipe instead. I’
That’s a great quote @hawky. It’s a true feeling once you make the switch. I wish my local Cigar bar would allow pipe smoking, but he insists on cigars only. Davidoff does allow pipe smoking here in ATL, because they sell pipes and pipe tobacco, but they close early and thus I often still smoke a cigar at my other hang out that’s open late. But as said, wish I was smoking a pipe.

The cigar lounge rules about not smoking pipes is simple business interest. Why would you rent space for people to come and smoke something they don't buy from you? But it gives the lounges an overt merchantile aura that isn't pleasing, shows them up as the money-wringers they are, and since they are often small places with the owner behind the cash register, it isn't a convivial feel. But I'd do the same things, as an owner. You gotta pay the rent, and yourself. I just stay away, thanks. I'd smoke my cigars somewhere else, wherever I bought them.

I love cigars. The problem is they are worse for your heart than pipes. The last cigar I smoked gave me a sharp piercing pain in the heart. I put it down and have not had another.

I go through phases, sometimes I smoke cigars mostly. Other times pipes mostly. Rarely do I smoke both in the same day. When it’s cigars I smoke one or two a week. The pipe I find I can smoke more often, party because I’m still trying a bunch of new blends. And I’ll smoke it about 4-5 times a week. As many on here, in social situations I gravitate towards a cigar. I usually smoke my pipe after lunch when I’m by myself.
