A new Soren Refbjerg

Soren Refbjerg Rasmussen sadly passed away in 2021

Some years ago I came across a site with several of his pipes - most were unsmoked bulldogs.
Regrettably I passed on them as my focus then was on old Britwoods

This rusticated, straight, squat Bulldog/Rhodesian came in today.
It is stamped Refbjerg, so made during his later years, after the closure of his factory

My Refbjerg. The other side is just as good. Unfortunately, I got it long before I learned to keep vulcanite out of light, so I've had to sand away oxidation to the point that I've lost the "R."

I suffered severe pangs of remorse for months after that previous stash of NOS Refbjergs sold

I tried to rationalise by telling myself “you are interested in Britwood Bulldogs ONLY”

To little avail

This NOS Refbjerg goes some ways towards soothing that angst

It’s a recurring shape in his portfolio.
No two are identical - attesting to them being carved/made individually,

Vaguely reminiscent of USS Enterprise - just missing a couple of “fins”

Only time I can recall was when a NOS meer arrived and I thought to myself “What were you thinking ?
At 4 bowls a week it’d take another lifetime to get it to colour sufficiently”.
