Well this may come strange to many but I have recently had many personal changes/difficulties over the past few months
I feel like every time I look at my pipes(just over 10 in rotation) - it makes me unhappy
I just want to turn over a new leaf and get rid of these pipes and get brand new ones
It's amazing how much of an effect objects have on our lives
Would it be crazy to send them away for a trade in - even if it amounts to fewer pipes but ones that will make me happy?
I don't think I want estates either - majority of my pipes are estates - some are valuable and exotic but mostly just smokers pipes
The only thing I worry about is if the newer pipes I acquire would possibly be lousy smokers but I've rarely had that issue

I don't believe externals can ever make us feel a certain way, as our thoughts, over which we have control, determine our consciousness. If seeing your pipes brings you down, it is because the thoughts and feelings that you have are depressive.

Changing your thoughts is easier said than done, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

In the cob department, I recommend the special editions with acrylic stems that cost about $27, but the stems are sturdier. I tend to chew up the soft plastic ones. With your current pipes, I'd cull maybe half of them, and put the others aside. I'd trade in the ones you cull for store credit toward one pipe you favor, that looks appealing and upbeat. Your current keepers could look better after a "vacation" in the drawer, or you can trade them in later. That would be my plan.

I’d say give it a while. If you don’t change your mind, sell them or put them towards store credit. Or bomb some unsuspecting friends or forum members who you know will appreciate them and give them a good home. The ones you may be tired of looking at could make someone else’s day. Especially some of the newer guys that might not have many pipes yet.
At least in that way they’ll still bring you a little pleasure.

I think I figured out what to do - I've never owned cobs
So I'm going to put my pipes aside and order some cobs pronto - slow down and decide what I'm going to do
That's what I did. I have my old man's collection of pipes, all of them smoked hard and put away dirty and every last vulcanite stem chawed and green. I ordered 4 Missouri Meerschaums and got them into rotation and I'm happy.
