A Mysterious Bulldog

Gorgeous pipe Rustie! Brings to mind a pipe history question i was mulling recently.. when was the first "bulldog" made and by whom? Anyone here know?

I’ve read that the French came up with the Bulldog shape, when it was called a “Haiti”

No idea which manufacturer though.
