A Minor Cancer Inconvenience...

I know it looks like my wife finally found out how many pipes I really have, but that can't be true as she smoke them too.
The fact is I had to have a skin cancer taken off my forehead that the doc had been warning me about for about a year. He took one off my forearm last year and told me it looked like I had one on my forehead too. After my claiming that it had been there for a long time and never got bigger, he agreed to check it again later. Later happened to be last week, and yes it had gotten larger (much to my dismay). Lucky for me these have been carcinoma skin cancers which are not as bad as the melanoma type, but hey cancer is cancer, it has to go, and it's nothing to fool around with.
So I'm consoling myself with a little latakia flake in my old Armellini while watching Tiny House Hunting or some such thing with my wife. Our neighbors are fixing us some Gin and Tonics later, followed by a spaghetti dinner, so I shouldn't complain too much. Plus, I know that there are others that are going through hell and back compared to my little discomfort....

I am glad you are ok. Cancer is a 'thing' no matter how minor. I am glad you've been watching it and gotten it taken care of.

Orley, had a couple rounds of Moh's surgery myself from a misspent youth, a very blond (when really young) kid spending any amount of time in the summer sun, and later adventures insufficiently slathered in sunscreen. Stick with the upkeep and maintenance, and make the appointments when invited back for check-ups. Fast and comfortable healing.

Glad you're okay - skin cancer is both one of the easiest to treat and at the same time one of the most virulent cancers, so good on you and your doc for getting that checked out.

Glad you gotten taken care of and you are doing fine. Any type of skin cancer is no joke and needs to be addressed. I had a spot of skin cancer on my nose and had it removed. Now I go to the dermatologist once a year to get checked over.

Ah, may that be the last of it, and a speedy recovery to you, too! I go to a dermatologist who removes whatever she wants. I think she said a couple were "pre-cancerous" whatever that means.
Take heart; if you need to go out, now's the time to try on a "do-rag"! (sp?) I have, but only on Hallowe'en.

Thanks everyone, your thoughts are appreciated! We just got back from the neighbors, and after a few G&Ts, some spaghetti and meat balls, and a little piece of cheese cake, I feel much better. (be still my diabetes) Looking forward to just relaxing with the pipe for the next few days, cleaning the stitches, using fresh bandages, and trying to compensate for the carbs and sugar from tonight. Might have to play up the situation a little with fathers day coming up and all, and see what transpires. That's probably wrong of me, but I'm weak.... :wink:

Thinking about you, pal. Good on you for getting that thing gone. Watched my pop have the same treatments for skin cancers on his head and face. The treatments are mean sumbitches. Glad you're taking them in stride.

Orley, the first Basil Cell I had got as big around as a nickel before I ever did anything about it, because I thought it was just a ring worm like I got as a kid swimming. Since then I have had MOHS surgeries on 11 Basil Cells & 3 Squamous Cells. I have to go every 6 months for a check up and have had literally hundreds of acktenic keratosis places frozen off my hands & arms, face & neck. Like I tell my dermatologist when he asks, I have probably spend 90-95% of my life in the outdoors between working, being in the woods or on the water so far, and the other 5-10% I just wasted! I asked him once if a person can get this much exposure from wind burn & he asked me if I had been in a lot of wind. I told him just on fast motorcycles, in fast boats & convertibles!

Orley, you are lookin' pretty good there despite that bandage around the head. Might be the start of a whole new thing for you! I got back from the dermatologist today with an appointment to have a melanoma removed from my neck on Monday. I probably will not end up looking as good as you do, but I'm going to do the head bandage thing anyways.
