I’ve got a Medico Brylon stummel, which is impervious to any kind of stripping. Went through the works including acetone. Maybe there’s some decent briar underneath it.

Im not sure if it’s worth working over and restoring. I gather these would smoke rather hot.

Many thanks,
Bill

No, no briar under there. It's all Brylon, which is a synthetic material developed in the 1960's, if I remember correctly. For decades they sold a great number of these pipes at extra low prices. They were discontinued about ten years ago, but are still available online. They burned pretty hot, and are heavy for the size chamber. However, they have their fans. One member here values his Brylon pipes because he works in particularly dusty messy situations, and Brylon pipes can be scrubbed off repeatedly without any damage or wear, so he doesn't have to spend a lot of time cleaning his hands or the pipes.

I don't know exactly what Brylon is. I'd be cautious grinding it up or sanding it, etc., since some materials that are semi-safe if solid can be hazardous in smaller particles or dust; this is true of asbestos, though Brylon isn't that. Maybe the dumpster is the wise alternative.

There’s been half a dozen threads in the last week that I’m sure are just trolls.
This is one.
