Hi All. I bought a beater Barling off of ebay. It is pretty rough, and the bowl was choked down to about 1/4 inch bore.
Why did I buy it? I bought it because it makes me happy to revive an old pipe. That pipe was obviously important to its previous owner - he smoked it a ton. And I am partial to workingman's pipes. I think Barling is generally in that category - anyway - this one is.
It was a pain. I worked and worked with the reamer - barely a dent. So I got a 13/16 drill and just made it happen. Then sanded the green stem. A little more (lot more) clean up, and a bit of buffing, and it was ready to smoke.
I filled it with Orlik Golden Sliced.
Anyway - Today was the very FIRST bowl that I smoked all the way down to ash. It was really good! I think I finally understand what a 'great smoker' pipe is... It was a good day!
