I can’t smoke H&H or Carter Hall (not because I’m a snob, but because they taste awful to me) but have learned to love blends I never thought I would like dark fireds and Virginia twists. I love Latakia blends and many aros.

I didn't enjoy Carter Hall but find H&H an acceptable OTC Codger's blend. I generally keep it on hand for quick smokes, when needing a reprieve from stronger tobaccos, or when I am traveling (it travels better than premium tobacco that begins to dry out in a travel pouch and I don't want the added bulk of carrying the jar). I don't mind H&H as a supplemental tobacco but like sugar, I use it sparingly. ? I simply do not like fresh virginias straight or blended. Fresh Va varietals smell and taste like fresh cut hay, green and premature. For me, a VA isn't suitable to be smoked until it has matured long enough to develop rich complexity and balance with sugars that have ripened into a deep molasses that produces a creamy thick smoke. I consider fresh VA undeveloped and unprocessed similar to a green b•a•n•a•n•a.
It's nutty but has an off chemical flavor that won't leave a pipe or your palate afterwards from the "licorice/cherry" or whatever flavor is supposed to be on it. I liked it for the period of about a week or two until one day I just couldn't stand its smell.
Same thing here. I went through a Half & Half phase. It was okay for a while but eventually ghosted one of my Peterson's and made the pipe unsmokable. I had to pay a repair guy to fix it.
