There's an old-fashioned usage you still occasionally hear in New England where calling someone (including oneself) ugly has nothing to do with appearance, but with unpleasant mood and attitude towards others. I think it is expressed quite well by the old phrase "The Ugly American."

It would be funnier if not a lot more truth than you might think.

Truth can be funny. Its funny to me because once you fire Dave, the work doesn't get done, the rest serve no purpose and the company folds. Its coming !

Having traveled around the world extensively, this is true. Many are ugly Americans.
