As some of you may know, I made a post awhile back about spotting a pipe smoker in the reveal trailer for the reboot of the Thief series.

The game was released today, and after spending around five hours in-game, I'm happy to report multiple pipe sightings. The very first moment you enter the game there's a pipe on the nightstand, guards and laborers stop their duties for a pipe break. It looks like mainly straight billiards and long clays so far, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for others. It's good to see pipe smoking portrayed in a positive light as an everyday essential of the common man. This is the forth game in the series, the first two where released in the late nineties. None of the previous games ever had any pipes, so I see this more proof that the pipe is once again gaining acceptance among the general population.

I will post pictures of the pipe sightings as I see them.

Videos get away with a lot of stuff TV doesn't, like extreme gore nudity and smoking. I wouldn't say this is a sign pipe smoking is becoming more accepted, sadly. That game does sound cool though I'll check it out!

Unlike the fact it doesn't seem to be following the LOTR pipe popularity, no churchwardens (unless you count the clay warden that Basso the Boxman wears around his neck on a leather cord) or fantasy style pipes, just good old working man's pipes.

Came across an animation glitch where a guard stops his patrol to light his pipe. The animation loops and he just kept striking the match and lighting his pipe over and over and over. All I could think is "Damn wet baccy, he's probably smoking aromatics."

I opened this thread with the sneaky (hah) feeling it was about thief. I was right, and I therefore decided not to read the rest of your post :P Thief the dark project is one of my favourite games of all time, and I just want to know whether it is any good! (Hasn't been released in europe yet :()

It's good, granted its not Thief: The Dark Project good, but better than Thief 3 by a long shot. Just the storyline and dialogue was more polished. Well worth buying though!

I used to be big into the Thief 1&2 modding scene. I built levels using the name William The Taffer, recently I found out some of my mods are still being played and reviewed after all these years. Kinda cool I guess.

I thought this was going to be about assassins creed 3 & 4. I've been curious about this game, never having played any of the others.

Wow, I had no idea there were mods for thief avaliable. I found the original game so superb I never even looked into it, but I feel I'm going to have a rather frustrating afternoon trying to get it to work on windows 8! (any tips are appreciated if anyone's done it ;) )

Oh yes, there was/is a massive modding community for Thief. Literally thousands of new stories to play. Both Thief 1&2 included modding tools, back when more PC game devs cared about their players creative side. There have been massive games built to extend the Thief lore. One of the biggest and best is called Calendra's Legacy.

Honestly I'm not sure how to get classic Thief working on current gen setups, however if you head over to ttlg.com (the still very active Thief series community) they have a fan made patch somewhere that will patch it to recent gen devices.

I worked in a game shop for a while and I got tired of the trailer running over and over. I'll pick this up once it's a Classic.

From what I've seen, I don't know that this one will make it to "classic" status. At least not until it's better optimized.

Ah well I managed it with a lot of jiggery and pokery. Have to make my PC run on one processor, but it's given me something to do with the afternoon!

Am I the only one who will be playing this on a actual consol? Where is all the PS4 love?

It's not getting good reviews, if that matters. Giant Bomb only gave it two out of five stars.
I'm playing Diablo III with the new megapatch. No pipes sighted yet in that one.
