As you may remember I took part in the Pipe Making Seminar at the Chicago show this year. I completed a brandy/billiard and started a second pipe I didn't get a chance to finish. I went from a block with a drilled rod (supplied by our friend Lone Star)...
To a finished shape and a basic stem
I finished the stem to about 90% of where it should be and started blasting the bowl. But this was a HARD piece of red briar, so I was barely making a dent and the seminar was ending. Luckily Ryan (aka Lone Star)offered to take it back to his shop and finish it up for me.
So here's what I got in the mail today...
I love smoothing out plateau and leaving the low spots.
The button work is ALL Ryan's
I wish I could say this was a 50/50 collaboration, but without Ryan's expert finish work this would have been a pipe full of sadness.
