I pack it is as tight as I can to get as much in as I can. I get about 1-2/3 lbs ribbon per half gallon and 2 lbs flake per half gallon. About 8 oz per pint jar. I also vacuum seal. But that's just me and how I like my tobacco. I've never heard of issues with not packing or leaving out the vacuum seal. It's personal preference as I see it.

I’ve found that I can get One Pound into a 64 Ounce Mason Jar without much difficulty. But it is definitely packed tightly.

My feeling is that packed tightly means less oxygen. In other words, it may preserve it longer.
