if i could turn back the clock back it would be about forty years.

too many tobacco varieties to even with the turn dont think there would be enough time.

in the past couple weeks have samples six and for one reason or the other tend to like them all.

when the mail delivers the six samples i bought online will really have the heeby jeebys.

in another six weeks will order another six more and go through all that over again.

:(

grouchy, i would love nothing more than to turn back the clock 40 years for many reasons i would 4 then but wishing i could be 18 hahaha with my pipe smoking whatever tobacco was around then. I don't think there was that much variety as there is now but i'm not sure about that.

Maybe not as much of a variety, but many great blends that are no longer and will never be produced again.

smokingdawg i have tried to find tobacco's of old to try but i haven't had any luck on that as yet it's the old aroma that i like the smell of, the kind my grandad used to smoke hahaha i know so many times it has been said. Is there any tobaccos out there that produce that kind of aroma.

A lot of the older smokers smoked OTC blends and that may be what your looking for. Such blends as Prince Albert, Walnut and others. Many of these are still available and many even in grocery stores.

To me the aroma of Captain Black is reminiscent of the old days.

In fact, I'm about to light up a bowl right now of Capt. Black in a nice 47 Kaywoodie...

Ah, the simplistic ways of bygone years.....I love it.

Of course don't forget that when you are smoking, the aroma is not the same as when you are standing in the room while someone else smokes...but I'm sure you knew that already.
When letting out the smoke let some go out your nose also, and that will help capture some of the aroma of the tobacco.

I don't know, Grouchy....If I were to go back to 1971 I'd still be married to my first wife....all the old tobacco in the world would not make that worthwhile.... :laughat:

"Over 30 years ago when I took up the pipe we had a great selection of blends to choose from, for one, Middleton's Cherry Blend, which I still smoke to this day, it's an old school tobacco but has stayed the course and stood the test of time for a reason."
Oh yeah, I did like that tobacco also, I've forgotten all about Middleton's Cherry...now I want some.

The best thing about 40 years ago was not only the great blends that aren't here now, but you could light up anywhere you wanted to and not have to worry about someone giving you "that" look or worse yet, getting fined...

If I could turn back the clock, I'd smack the cigarette out of my hand, give myself a pipe and a tin of tobacco and say, "Do it with some class, you jerkwad!"

I'm with Johnny on this one! While there are a lot of "lost" blends, we have a lot more to pick from now.

40 years ago the OTC's were pretty much all we had unless you could afford to fork over $3.00 for a tin of Dunhill. Folks, these are the good old days.
