That is unbelievable and shockingly disrespectful.

That woman must be mentally ill, or at the least a maladjusted intolerant malcontent.

You're on your porch, smoking your pipe and reading the morning paper.

That's a perfectly normal activity.

Over the years, millions of American men have sat on their porches reading their morning (or in the old days, the afternoon) newspaper.

Hell, that's about as American as you can get.

Had I been passing by your porch, I would have extended a friendly greeting and wished you a good morniing.

That would be the neighborly thing to do, smoker or non-smoker.

It's about respect and tolerance -- good manners.

I truly, honestly believe that a large portion of the antis have something seriously, mentally wrong with them.

That woman's behavior was sociopathic.

She violated basic social norms.

From a distance, some of these rabid folks appear to be downright rude, but I suspect there's some serious junk in their attic.

And their uncivil (and unAmerican) anti-smoking antics are their outlet.

Why would she care about what you do on your own property..... I don't get that.

If it happened to me... I would just say: "What do you care?" and then continue as if she wasn't there.
too bad with these strange Dutch laws I can't even defend my property without having to call the police.

I just hope I never get in such a situation.

Look at it this way. You were, justifiably, pissed off. You got over it. She is forced to live her entire life in that dark, twisted, demon-infested cave that passes for her brain. Nothing you could do or say would equal the pain of that.
