Pipe Dreamer and Star Gazer
Jiminks Irish Pre Republic Peterson X155 got me to thinking about what is or is not a real man's pipe. I'm not talking about the Sea Captains big ole pipe or the lumberjacks Paul Bunyan. I'm referring this thread to the kind of pipe your grandfather or Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce would smoke. You know the pipe. Stately lines, secure in its own manhood, not too brash, but a simple elegance that brought out and reflected the inner refinement in the man. Yes, women smoke pipes and yes, lots of people associate masculinity with all sorts of things. That's not what this thread is about.

Well, you know the type of pipe about which I am referring.

Here's my example: Medico with silver overlay.

Okay, maybe it is pushing the limits.
tempImageSESPDE.jpgMaybe this is a better example: A simple Savinelli 32 Bulldog with a saddle stem.

That Savinelli is a Stanwell.
I think I get your point and I think my own aesthetics are along those same lines. Well not the Medico, but more generally speaking.
I'm too lazy to post a picture of anything.

I don't know about one pipe versus another as a masculinity gauge, which is probably in the mind of the pipe owner. But I do own two Stanwell 32 bulldogs, a smooth and a silke brune, which are durable good smokers.

Those two short straight billiards are truly great. Just the kind of shape i gravitate to and are not markedly different i concept from Castello 10, Radice short billiards and even the Peterson Short serie.s

You're asking a nonexistent concept of an inanimate object. A pipe is as gender neutral as a pencil or a hammer.

One that best defines what someone might have seen 60-70 years ago.
Other than freehands, pipe shapes are virtually the same as they were nearly a century ago.

As for the ladies, my wife prefers cobs but J. Everett made a Christmas pipe for her last year.
