With regard to the stinger, you might dip just the metal part in a cup of boiling water (heated in a microwave oven) in order to soften the residual tar (if, indeed, that is the dark matter which appears in your image above). Using a firm toothbrush wetted with some Dawn dish-soap and baking soda you should then be able to scrub it clean.
Smoking old briars such as yours is the closest thing to time-travel that any one of us is likely to experience. May this pipe always take you back to pleasant days of yore.

Thanks for the tip. I don't know why I didn't think about a toothbrush, that would help with the bowl too I bet. This was the first time I have tried murphy's oil soap. It felt like it stripped the wood? Maybe it was just really dry under the grime. I rubbed a small amount of coconut oil to help season it.
