A Few Questions Regarding Clay Pipes and Cleaning Them

I was wondering since the torch method was too much & I don't have a gas stove, what alternative methods would work. My main concern is having a dry smoke afterwards.

not for most of us. And the ones that could afford it then are probably the same that can afford it now.
