Found this website last night that make and sell these pipe racks. They have an FAQ page on there but i would like to get everyone's opinion on this pipe rack if it's worth it or not to buy.
Heres the link to the site also

That is different. I would be concerned though, as the vulcanite bits might bend under the weight of the briar over time. Might be good for bent pipes, but I would not put a straight on it without any support.

I had a vulcanite stem break from a little cleaning. I would also be a little concerned with this set up.

Besides possibly causing damage, it just plain LOOKS precarious and has an unsettling feel to it, like it's lacking in feng shui.

I've seen racks like this before and it just seems like there's too much pressure on the mortice.
Plus it just looks weird.

It seems to be one of those "good in theory, bad in reality" things..If you had the RIGHT pipes it might look cool but the possibility of ruining them would make it redundant.

It looks like if you pulled one out and didn't do it just right all the other pipes may fall out.

I have built one and having done it I can definitely see room for improvement. It's far more secure than it looks. You can turn it and not fear your pipes flying off as long as you don't spin it like a tire and keep your pipes out of the edge. Definitely not something to let the kids play with.
To build another I think that some manner of appropriately stiff material in the slots that would envelop the stems when they were pressed in would improve it. Maybe slightly over-sized cork or felt, maybe some kind of rubber. It would also improve the grip a bit. Otherwise I think it's great. Very attractive even when partially filled and a great display for pipes. I do not think that your stems are in danger by being in there as acrylic, lucite, and vulcanite are pretty robust materials and as far as bending in there...well the possibility is there but I'm positive that they would have to sit there undisturbed for years before you saw any change.
