Malcolm's is one of the few pipe channels that I enjoy after getting handle on pipe smoking. He does a good job of making things feel homey and jovial. He's the kind of man whose demeanor I would like to emulate in my old age.

He's also a good poet. I'm not a very religious person, and his poetry often is focused on religious themes and imagery, but the man can write a good poem.

Dr. Guite is brilliant. I have some of his books and love his insights. Brian Levine interviews him in episode 497.

Yes, that's a definite work of poetry, no fledgling effort that. It illustrates that formal verse can be powerful. Also, it is an exemplar of religious poetry, since it doesn't rely on clerical language or necessarily on the idea that the reader is of the same religion. The syntax is intelligible and not archaic, as is the vocabulary. And the rhyme serves the poem and doesn't just rattle along awkwardly. Yup, that's the real McCoy. Good for Malcolm. Also, his modesty is becoming and authentic. He ain't strutting his stuff, just sharing his work. Good man.
