I was born here in North Carolina when I was ten years old my dad moved me to Detroit I lived there for over fourty years.I moved back to carolina when I retired..Of course I was and still am a Tiger fan.I miss going to the games and getting beer spilled on me.Mostly I miss eating those roasted peanuts, and throwing the shells in the aisle..Another thing that I miss about the big city is the good many smoke shops that were around in those days.I visited quite a few of them.Sometimes when I'm sitting smoking a pipe my mind drifts back to those smoke shops.I wonder if they're still there? If the same folks still run them? Are they still the same? Probably Not almost everything changes with time.I'm sure they wouldn't know me now if I went back it's been fifteen years.I still wonder sometimes though if they would..How about you? Do you miss a smoke shop that you used to visit?

My dad smoked a pipe but he had a puritanical side and that forced him to keep it secret from me. Every time in my life I met a pipe smoker a voice in my head always acknowledged "Pipe guys are different". I started with nails, then graduated to cigars. Finally at 38, I acted on my dream to try a meerschaum. Now the smell of my pipe rack reminds me of the smell that came from my dad's collection. My wife thinks it sucks and planted a vile chemical "air freshener" on her side of the office, but I keep my pipe and accessories now next to my 2 college degrees and other things I consider great accomplishments (my books, my bands and my Masonic endowment). I envy you guys who have such great memories. I am only beginning to build mine.

I miss the old Epitome pipe shop that used to be off Bourbon Street in the New Orleans French Quarter; you could call and the owner would meet you on the street with the tobacco since it was impossible to park there. My favorite aromatic was first purchased and smoked from there in 1980. There used to an Irish Pub on the opposite corner, with a back bar where I could enjoy a bowl and listen to the Traditional Irish music without having to pay the tourist prices in the front for a pint of Guinness on tap. Would stop there every day after work, when I rode the ambulances for NOPD. I can still get Goedewaagan in the quarter at the New Orleans Cigar shop, a few blocks further down, but that bar is long gone.

Kinda miss the Edwards Shop that used to be on Severn in Metairie, got my first good pipe there, which I still have. Of course, most of my pipes have memories attached....

Puffy, i know what you are talking about i was born in nc and my parents moved to pa when i was five years old. i moved back to nc in 1972. i find myself alot of times thinking while smokeing my pipe of the times in pa over the years. what was there years ago is not there now. to many years have gone and when i make a trip back to pa i have to use a tom tom to find my way around where i lived.
a funny story, a friend of mine came to visit me here in nc from pa one year and we were talking of old times and he told me he looked up a old girlfriend one day. he said he went to the door and knocked and this little old lady came to the door and he asked her if she knew the girl he was looking for and she said she was her. he said he was shocked that was her. he was a good friend and passed away a few years ago. things change over time and everytime i hear this song i think of my friend.

I feel your pain....

I'm a transplanted Padres Fan...

I have gone to many a game in the old Padres Stadium...

When baseball fans were baseball fans and Yankee's fans made sheep skittish. :D

Edit: Sorry, couldn't resist.... No offense meant... Just poking fun.
