Wow, what a pipe. What grade is this one?
I was at the Philly Pipe Club last week (met Lestrout). One member only smokes S. Bang pipes and I was able to hold a D grade pipe, their highest grade. It was an amazing briar. Hank Saitchi also had an A grade S. Bang that was beautiful as well. To that point, I never seen an S. Bang in the flesh.

This is a Grade 8, so it is a few levels below the highest grade. I can't imagine what a D grade goes for. My understanding is that S Bangs destined for the US market don't have a grade on them - only ones destined for elsewhere. Or at least that's what a google search told me.
Can't what to try the BS Mixture.

What a classic Bang shape -- simply gorgeous, perfectly simple design. Like Al, I've never seen one in the flesh, but have been keeping my eyes peeled for the right one to come along. Can't wait to hear how this smokes.

Beautiful pipe. I have one S. Bang carved in 1984 when they began. I picked this pipe up as an estate on Smokingpipes.com. I love my Bang, however, you're pipe looks better.

Congratulations on your new pipe. If you enjoy it lots you are 1 pipe closer to a 7 day set.
Let us know how it smokes in comparison to your Rad's and Cookes's

I thought I'd give the thread on this gorgeous pipe a bump.
Peck, have you had a chance to try either the pipe or the Balkan Sobranie?

I lit it up on the weekend. Smoked a VA blend which I would prefer not to name (since I am in "cellaring" mode on the blend), and it was sublime. Smoked beautifully, with a nice easy draw. Now, did it smoke better than some of my North American artisan pipes? No, about the same. But I love the shape and hand feel of the thing.
I have not tried the BS yet - jarred it up and will light it up in my lat pipe, maybe for thanksgiving.

I was just getting ready to comment on what a killer pipe that was and then I found my post as I was reading down through the thread. That pipe is beautiful. I can't imagine how nice it looks in person and not just in the photos. Glad to hear it is an amazing smoker for you Peck.

Glad to hear it, Peck. Thanks for the update. I've yet to own a Bang, but I love the thick, solid look of some of their bowls. I'm convinced that the look and feel of a pipe are as much a part of the experience as the internal engineering.
