I just picked up a 6mm, the other 4 of my pipes being 9 and I do think it's a little more restrictive, but doesn't affect anything. If you're used to 9mm pipes, you'll have no trouble with the 6mm versions.

Never had an issue with 9mm. I occasionally will get a 6mm filter that is restrictive. Not sure if it really helps, but I started trying rolling 6mm filters between my fingers to make sure the granules are loose before I install it, and pack the bowl a bit lighter.

A lot is going to depend on the maker and pipe design. I have 9mm pipes that are more free than other 9mm pipes. At least with 9mm pipes the internal diameter of the tenon/filter holder varies. Some have more "Flow around" than others.

Some guys here say the Sav 6mm filters are a bit more free than other filters. Additionally, there was a recent post illustraiting that 6mm filters are significantly different in length between brands. 9mm filters have a standard length but can vary a little in diameter.

I also do the roll between the fingers on a tighter packed filter to break up blockages. I will also give them a tap on both ends. Sometimes it helps the draw.

I try not to buy 6mm pipes just because I dont want to stock extra filters but the right pipe would change my mind.

Do you notice a difference between 9mm and 6mm pipes when using a charcoal filter? Do the 6mm have a tighter draw?
Yes, 6mm does seem to have a tighter draw; however, this fact led me to packing similar to a "codger." I pack very loosely and have learned to tamp down just right. I now prefer a 6mm, because I know how to pack just right.
