I live in southern maryland and was in the 10th grade at the time. We watched the news in every classroom all day, and I can honestly say it took something from our childhood. It really hit home as many of my friends fathers and mothers work in the pentagon, and at crystal city(military offices close by). Theres nothing like having to see a frantic kid trying to call their parent to check on them.

I've edited some posts from this thread. Let's not get into a pissing contest over which tragedy is worse. A moment of silence and perhaps a personal reflection for this particular tragedy is all that's needed. Thanks.

I offered a moment this morning at work, as well. I was in the 10th grade also. We were taking a test in Social Studies and my teacher got a phone call and ran out of the room. Came back and told us. The rest of the day was not really about the lesson plans. I grew up 90 miles north of NYC. Thankfully, I didn't know anyone there that day but as an American, it still hurts, and the my heart goes out to those that did lose someone that day to the terrorist attack in New York City, the Pentagon, in Pennsylvania, and, more recently, in Bengazi.

I smoked a bowl of C&D's First Responders tonight in memory of this tragic event, which is indelibly etched in my mind and will be until the day I pass. I think all of us will remember that day and where we were when it happened for all eternity. One of my partner's spouse worked in a high floor on one of the towers. She was late to work that morning. Many of her colleagues died that day. I will never forget his reaction that morning when he heard about the event and the frantic calls he made trying to reach her on her cell, all to no avail because the cell lines were down. She was fortunate. Almost 3,000 others were not. We must never forget.

I actually did have a relative working in the World Trade Center, but she made it out ok. At the time, I didn't even know I had any relatives in New York, my mother told me when I got home that day. I don't think any red blooded American will ever forget that day. I just wish we'd have put both boots in their ass, instead of one! If I'd have been in charge, they wouldn't have been able to make bombs fast enough to keep up with the ones we'd have been dropping! That being said, I think Bush did a pretty decent job of it.
Many thanks to the men and women who serve/served this great country, both overseas, and on the home front! All branches of the armed forces, police, fire and emt's are special people and they deserve our gratitude and respect!

My wife and I watched the History Channel special last night "102 Minutes". What a horrific event, we both had tears in our eyes. We have a picture in our upstairs hallway of all of our family at the top of the WTC taken in November 2000, when it catches my eye it is a sad reminder of 9/11. I drive past NYC a good bit and sometimes my Secaucus hotel room faces Manhattan. It's was so sad to see that empty skyline for so many years. The new Freedom Towers just aren't the same.
