Very very beautiful pipes, and even better - if possible - stories in each of the threads!
Hoping for a thread and pictures of them all together!
Haha, I thought about that, but unfortunately for me, all the shapes that would have worked well with this set (Bull Moose, Eskimo, Walrus) I find terribly unappealing aesthetically, haha.Grand finale of an amazing series - absolutely stunning pipe, the Scrimshaw is beautifully performed and really makes the pipe in my opinion.
Slightly missed opportunity for a Walrus-shape pipe though
Hoping for a thread and pictures of them all together!
Yeah, between Ivory, Balene, Gold, Wood, Bone, Qiviut, and much more there is a tremendously diversified and unique portfolio of art the community produces.Such an impressive pipe and a very impressive feat.
I have some native Alaskan ivory art and it’s amazing the craftsmanship involved.
Ha, I can certainly see that. Also at least the Eskimo and Walrus hearken to a Danish tradition that would have been out of place i this set in my opinion. Looking forward to the summary thread/poll, thanks!Haha, I thought about that, but unfortunately for me, all the shapes that would have worked well with this set (Bull Moose, Eskimo, Walrus) I find terribly unappealing aesthetically, haha.
Haha, there must be alot more criminal bass out there than scrimshanders I guess hahahaHoly shit! The scrimshaw is incredible. And today I learned about scrimshaws (my autocorrect is also apparently just learning about scrimshaws since it thought I meant to type "a crime bass" instead of scrimshaw, jesus this thing sucks so bad)!
The piersel might be mine as well. That or this one.Wow! What a pipe, and a fantastic addition to round out your collection, which is wonderfully varied and stunningly artistic. Well done!
I think my favorite of the 7 is the Piersel, but they are all works of art.
Yeah, been to Hawaii several times. Lot's of interesting connections between Alaska and Hawaii actually, uncontiguous brotherhood, expensive cost of living, Captain Cook, whale migrations, etc.Nice pipe, feels like the culture around here too, enjoy!
Enjoy the collection, take well care of it!
If you didn’t know it, Lahaina Maui, has a big history in whaling, not to forget also in the present, the migration of the Humback to Maui every year to give birth.
The whales and scrimshaw is a big part of Hawaiian Culture too.
I feel like I just came back from a visit at the Whalers Village Museum in Kaanapali. ?
