This Specimen Straight Grain caught my eye because it looked close to unsmoked. But, it was sold by an unknown seller, with an Ebay number of 4, the date range was anywhere from '46 to '81, so I wasn't expecting much. I didn't think it would top $700. Someone must have had a big hole in their Comoy's collection.

Yes, it was actually relisted, sold for over $700 the first time as well, but not sure why the sale fell through.

Question was asked and answered on ebay, buyer failed to pay. Another interesting English pipe that sold today,

Al:
That Specimen Straight Grain is truly beautiful and probably is a 700 buck pipe.
Dave, I like Sasienis but have got to guess the $345.00 price tag has to do with the unfamiliar to me stamping, "RUST or RUSH?" Do you have any additional info?
It's probably a Sasieni collector's wet dream or yet another hairy chest contest. The top two bidders don't have 200 approval ticks between them.

If the Comoy's bag is the original, I would personally date it to around 1968-1978.

Jim, it's the "RUSTIC" mark for the carved finish. The $345 is actually a good price for a One Dot, the pipe is in very good - excellent condition. Professionally restored, I would ask at least twice that!

@Ken - ah yes, that bag matches the 1977 hallmarked pipe that I recently acquired
I was also watching that One Dot, I love the Rustic finish. I thought it might fly under the radar, nope...

I'm still wondering about value for a gorgeous smooth one dot I have. Usually only see the rustic versions.

That Comoy is outstandingly beautiful, but I too am surprised at the price it fetched,

yowza!

Dave,

I was the first bidder on that old Sasieni,

$38.83 for the win baby!

:)

That shape doesn't pop up much, I knew it'd go pretty high, sometimes I bid just for fun to feel like I'm "part of the action" LOL

I don't know the estate market, but I'd suspect this could be a bubble. Will they bring more in two years? I wouldn't count on it. Or even as much. Lovely pipes, but the price.
