338 Win Mag, Lapua or Federal?
I used to be huge into shooting until recently when prices have gone through the roof and reloading components are all but impossible to find. An Accuracy International in .338 Lapua was on my wish list... Still is I guess but I realize it'll be something I really have no need for and probably won't get.
After a quick search there's also 338 Marlin Express, Remington Ultra Magnum, Edge, Norma Magnum, Ruger Compact Mag and Winchester.
Didn't realize there were so many 338 cartridges. There are some necked up 30-06 cartridges too... 338-06 A-Square.

Great shot! The .338 Lapua was developed as a sniper round in 1989, by SAKO (Finns) and Accuracy International (Brits). It's parent case is a .416 Rigby. A 300 grain bullet puts out more than 5,000 ft lbs of muzzle energy. Ouch.
The Finnish Army has a ≤ 1 MOA requirement at 1,000 meters (3280 ft) for it's TRG-42 sniper rifle; if not, it gets a new barrel.

Brings back memories of when I briefly was the safty officer for the Fort Knox rifle team. They used the old WWII rifle ranges and would shoot 308 (M-14) from 1000 yds with peep sights. One side issue was lots of chiggers in the surrounding areas. My responsibilty were to schedule a range and fulfill requirements for a safty officer, sign for the ammunition etc. I wasn't a member of the team and I didn't travel with them for any competitions. There always seemed to be some crappy job available if they were traveling.

600 yards is a fair poke. I shoot in High Power Service Rifle matches 200/300/600 with an M14 and it is very fine way to spend a day!!!
