Excellent story. No matter how far we advance, we’ll always go back to craftsmanship.

I have a very good friend who went all high tech in everything he owns for a few years.

Well, currently he drives 1967 Range Rover, owns several Swiss mechanical watches, lives in a simple house, doesn’t own a smart phone and writes long hand in a notebook.

He savors craftsmanship in almost everything. His cookware and knives are his current passion

He’s a fascinating guy who has seen the future, and went backwards.

The youngsters I work with all laugh at my archaic simple flip phone. They are dumbfounded on how I take my notes in a simple field notes book and write cursive and of course the fact I smoke a pipe makes me "cool" and "old school" in their eyes. I have only been called a "Hipster" once and they are still looking for that guy's body. No smart watch, just a 10yr old Citizen Divemaster on my wrist and their mass confusion when I pull out a fountain pen.
I'm a firm believer that the smarter our "tools" get the dumber we become because we rely on them rather then learning and retaining the knowledge ourselves. Ask a person under 30 what their best friends phone number is, I bet they can't tell you without looking in their phone.

The fact that someone uses disposable lighters only shows me they are smart. Expensive lighters are a waste of money. It doesn't matter who made them or how much they cost, they always fail eventually and cost you an arm and a leg to get repaired, or end up in a drawer gathering dust.
