The field was probably intended to account for filling in 9mm or 6mm filters; instead of listing “None,” the seller probably opted to include the 3mm draft hole measurement because no other field was set up.

Ahhh Haa!!!

There’s no filter! It has a brass stinger.

IMG_2205.jpeg

It’s not green, either.:)

I do hope it has a vulcanite stem and actually was hand made.

My question is what does the Muxaing factory do with imperfect pipes with plain grain, fills, or flaws?

These come with a free return trial period. If they aren’t perfect they get sent back.

IMG_2203.jpeg

That piece of briar had to be the largest part of the $45 sale price.

You get what you pay for, good luck.

I’m glad you are here!

The total the Muxaing factory in China got, was $45 plus $10 postage.

That’s what eBay charged them on.

Chinese labor is cheap but not free.

Chinese overhead is cheap but not free.

Chinese taxes are something.

Tariffs cost something.

Vulcanite (or lucite) is very cheap but not free.

But they had to pay an Italian or a Spaniard or a Greek a good little chunk of change for that imported briar. The exact same pipes in rosewood or pear or ebony are much less, about $15 or $20.

Estimate me, your cost of that grade of briar, please.

If you're pleased with your purchase that's all that matters. Please post a photo of the actual pipe. As for cost of briar, it is a crap shoot. I've seen better grain in a $15 block and blasted $50 blocks, sometimes pipe making is really the pits😂 I seriously doubt it's German Ebonite though.

Muxaing is making a whole bunch of pipes in a factory. They have gained knowledge from other nations, on methods and sources and styles that will sell.

As for briar, they buy a bunch of it. They have an overseas supplier that presumably values the contract.

And as for stems, Italian stems are a dollar a piece retail on eBay. They might contract for those, too.

I'm very curious to know how these Muxiang pipes are. Let us know!

Muxiang makes a cigar pipe that looks really nice, a Zeppelin....I keep missing out on the Mastercraft Sparkless - I was going to snag one of those, but this looks super nice:Screenshot_20250801_141516_eBay.jpg

I wonder if they make any crazy Boer shapes or the twin or triple airway pipes like the Gerrard Three Way or Tsuge Derringer ?

Thats the real question. 😂

You can get a discount for multiple pipes, so no, it’s an exemplar.

And my other one was better than the one photographed.

Here’s the difference.

In China a skilled, and I mean best there is craftsman, probably has a $5 an hour wage.

In London or Italy the cost is ten times that.

It arrived today. I’m in shock, and awe, of the value.

It is flawless, fillless, rippleless, flame grained, waxed not varnished, slender shank, hand made well cured and aged Spanish briar wonderment with a hand made vulcanite stem that is the dressiest pipe I own, period.

And for $58 from Lincoln Nebraska by way of

IMG_2395.jpeg

A Spanish briar company contracts with a factory in China to make a $500 grade pipe they can sell to Bug Tussle Missouri and pay all Spanish taxes, all Chinese taxes, a 30% American tariff and 8% Missouri taxes plus postage three quarters around the world,,,,

For maybe half the price of a Peterson or Savinelli base model pipe.

My wife just came in to take my order for how I’d like my hamburger grilled and saw my pipe and said——

Woooahh.

Where did we come across that pipe?

Is that the package you took out here from the mailbox?

—-
I said yes dear, this pipe is made from Spanish briar, and it was on sale for only $45 plus $10 shipping.

—-

Gee, what a bargain for such a pipe as that.

You’ll be sure and take me to a sidewalk cafe in St Louis to smoke that one.
